The IELTS examination is an international English Language Testing System which is a pre- requisite for candidates filing for immigration and also for students intending to acquire admission into higher education institutions in the UK, USA, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
THE TWO VERSIONS OF THE TEST ARE:
a) Academic version is recommended for those who intend to pursue higher education and take PLAB (Examination for doctors who want to be registered in UK. Administered by General Medical Council).Also nurses intending to work in UK, Australia, New Zealand and USA must take the Academic version.
b) General version is recommended for those applying for immigration.
Listening (30 minutes)
Reading (60 minutes)
Writing (2 tasks – 60 minutes)
Speaking (11 to 14 minutes)
Test dates are fixed and are available twice a month throughout the year:
RESULTS:The results of the examination are given in the form of bands for each section of examination and the average score is awarded. The usual requirement is an average score of 6 or above if your intention is to obtain admission in universities. However, certain universities have their own special requirements. For the PLAB the score should be 7 or above.
